How much data is enough?

Use your own recent cellular usage as a starting point, then adjust for the way you plan to travel.

Start with your actual habits

Check your phone’s cellular-data usage over a known period. Navigation, messaging and restaurant searches usually behave differently from video streaming, cloud backup or a laptop connected through a hotspot. App settings can change usage substantially.

Count the days and connections

Match the plan’s validity to your whole trip, including arrival and departure. A 30-day plan with a small allowance is not automatically a better fit than a shorter package. Check whether unused data expires and whether a top-up is available.

A practical way to reduce surprises

  • Download offline maps and travel documents before departure.
  • Pause automatic photo backup and large app updates on cellular data.
  • Use your phone’s data warning and review usage after the first day.
  • If sharing with another device, confirm tethering permission and any separate hotspot cap.

Fixed or unlimited?

Choose a fixed package when you can estimate your usage and want a clear allowance. Consider an unlimited package when your needs are less predictable, but read the daily high-speed limit and throttling policy. See what unlimited can mean.
